With the Zimbra Connector for Outlook, Outlook synchronizes email, appointments, contacts and tasks and shows shared folders. Without the connector, Outlook can only retrieve email over IMAP.

The connector is part of the Business and Enterprise plans. In Starter and Professional, you set up Outlook over IMAP or use webmail.

Before you start

  1. Check the supported Windows and Outlook versions.
  2. Download the current version of the connector — older ones lead to synchronization errors.
  3. Close Outlook and install the connector.

Creating the profile

The connector requires a new Outlook profile.

  1. Control Panel → Mail (Microsoft Outlook) → Show Profiles → Add. If no profile exists yet, Outlook takes you straight to the setup.
  2. Enter a profile name and select Manual setup or additional server types.
  3. Other → Zimbra Collaboration Server. If the entry is missing, the connector was not installed correctly.
  4. Enter the connection details:
    FieldValue
    Server namezimbra.mydc.at
    Email addressYour full email address
    PasswordThe password of the mailbox
    Use secure connectionenabled
  5. Confirm and start Outlook. How long the first sync takes depends on the mailbox size.

The only server name to enter is zimbra.mydc.at — our certificate is issued for this name. With a different name, the secure connection fails.

If something doesn't work

“Zimbra Collaboration Server” is missing from the selection
The connector is not installed or does not match the Outlook architecture (32 or 64 bit).
The sync stalls
Create a new Outlook profile. Nothing is lost on the server in the process.
Appointments or contacts are missing
In that case the profile was set up over IMAP instead of over the connector.

If you run Outlook on several workstations, get in touch with us — Zimbra throttles many simultaneous connections from the same address.
