A deleted email first ends up in the Trash. Once the Trash has been emptied, the items remain for another 30 days in the Dumpster and you can recover them from there yourself.

The Dumpster is available in the Business and Enterprise plans. In Starter and Professional, only our backup helps once the Trash has been emptied — get in touch with us quickly, with the mailbox, sender, subject and approximate time.

Trash

As long as the Trash has not been emptied, simply move the message back into the folder you want.

Dumpster

The Dumpster works separately for each type of item. So switch to the matching section first: Mail, Contacts, Calendar or Tasks.

Modern interface

  1. Right-click the Trash folder.
  2. Select Recover Deleted Mails.
  3. Select the items, Next.
  4. Choose the target folder and confirm with Save.

Classic interface

  1. Right-click the Trash → Recover Deleted Items.
  2. Select an item and click Recover to.
  3. Choose the target folder, confirm with OK.

On touch devices you reach the same menu by pressing and holding the folder; on a Mac use ctrl + click.

If a program deletes permanently, the Dumpster does not catch it. This affects certain settings in Outlook and POP3 retrieval with “delete from server” — see Outlook archiving and Server settings.

If an entire mailbox was deleted in the Client Area, the Dumpster does not help — get in touch with us immediately. When employees leave, locking instead of deleting is the safe choice, see Managing mailboxes.
