Ransomware-Schutz (ransomware protection add-on)
With the Ransomware-Schutz add-on we automatically create a ZFS snapshot of your storage every day and keep the last 3 days. Snapshots are immutable — ideal against accidental deletion and against ransomware. Without this add-on we do not create any snapshots; restoring deleted/encrypted data is then not possible.
Restoring earlier versions yourself
If Ransomware-Schutz is active, you can open earlier, read-only versions directly and copy back the files you need:
- SMB: in the share under
.zfs\snapshot\<date>\ - SFTP/SSH: under
/home/.zfs/snapshot/<date>/
Note: Over NFS the .zfs folder is not visible for technical reasons. In that case use SMB/SFTP or the “Snapshot bereitstellen” (make a snapshot available) function in the client area.
Making a snapshot available in the client area
In the client area you see the existing snapshots. “bereitstellen” (make available) mounts a selected snapshot as a read-only copy from which you can copy files back — safely, without changing your current data.
Full reset (rollback)
A rollback resets the entire storage to an earlier snapshot and discards all data created since then. For safety reasons this step requires confirmation in two stages. If in doubt, use the read-only copy instead and copy back only the files you need.
