Outlook on the Mac connects your mailbox over Exchange Web Services (EWS) and synchronizes email, appointments, contacts and tasks without additional software.

This connection is part of the Enterprise plan. In the other plans, you set up Outlook over IMAP (email only) or use Apple Mail with CalDAV and CardDAV.

Setting up the account

  1. Outlook → Settings → Accounts.
  2. Add an account of the type Exchange, or Exchange or Office 365.
  3. Enter the values:
    FieldValue
    Email addressYour full address
    MethodUser Name and Password
    User nameYour full email address
    PasswordThe password of the mailbox
    Serverzimbra.mydc.at

Automatic detection leads to Microsoft. Choose the manual route and enter the server explicitly — otherwise the setup fails. The server to enter is zimbra.mydc.at, not your own domain.

If something doesn't work

Outlook keeps asking for the password
Check that the user name is the full email address and delete old entries for zimbra.mydc.at from Keychain Access.
Appointments or contacts are missing
The account was set up as IMAP. Create it again as an Exchange account.
New Outlook for Mac
The new version has only limited support for accounts outside Microsoft 365. Switch back to classic Outlook or use Apple Mail with CalDAV and CardDAV.
