Virtual networks are not tied to a single platform: when you create a virtual machine, you can attach a network interface directly to a network that belongs to another one of your cloud services.
The choice when you create the machine
When you are creating a virtual machine and click Add Virtual Network, the Source field is at the very top of the dialog:
- From This Service
- The networks of the platform you are currently working in.
- From All Services
- In addition, the networks of your other cloud services. The new machine then sits directly in the network of another service.
- New Virtual Network
- Creates a new network right away, without leaving the page.
Once you have chosen the source, you select the network and the IP address as usual.
The old detour is gone. You no longer have to create one network with the same VLAN ID on each side — simply choose From All Services.
What to keep in mind
- Only services at the same location. You can choose from the networks of those services that are at the same location as the new machine.
- Only active or suspended services. Cancelled services do not appear.
- Only while creating. If you later attach another interface to an existing machine through Network, only the networks of this service are available there. So plan this assignment while you create the machine.
- Addresses stay unique. Each IP address may occur only once in the shared network — the selection list therefore only offers you free addresses.
If New Virtual Network is not available, your allowance of virtual networks is used up. You extend it under Actions → Upgrade/Downgrade Options.
