For domains registered with us, DNS management is already included. You maintain the DNS records — for example for your website, email or certificates — directly on the domain and do not need a separate service for this.
Requirements
- The domain is registered with us and active. While a registration or transfer is still running, DNS management is not yet available.
- The DNS Management addon is enabled on the domain. It is already selected for new orders.
- For your records to actually be served, the domain points to our name servers
ns01.mydatacenter.atandns02.mydatacenter.at. See Changing name servers.
Where to find DNS management
Open your domain: on the Dashboard the Domains tile or directly My Domains, then the domain you want.
- Overview
- Below the domain details, shows the state of the zone: how many records are used, which name servers are stored, whether DNSSEC is enabled and what was changed most recently.
- DNS Records
- On the left in the sidebar. This is where you create, change and delete records.
- API access
- Also on the left. Keys for automation, for example for automatic certificate issuance.
Operation and rules are the same as for the Managed DNS product. How to create records, delete several at once or create an API key is explained in detail in the Managed DNS category.
If no zone has been set up yet
If the domain pointed to other name servers when you ordered it, there is no zone on our name servers yet. DNS management then shows No zone has been set up for this domain on our name servers yet.
- Click Create zone now.
- Under DNS Records, create all records your domain needs.
- Then switch the name servers to ours.
This keeps the domain reachable throughout the move. The zone only takes effect once the domain points to our name servers.
Turning the addon on and off
- On the domain, choose Addons on the left.
- In the DNS Host Record Management card, turn the addon off with Disable or back on with Order.
Domain and Managed DNS service for the same domain
If you have also booked the Managed DNS service for the same domain, you edit the same zone in both places. DNS management on the domain points this out with This zone is also linked to your "DNS management" service. For a domain registered with us, you do not need the service in addition.
If something doesn't work
- “DNS management becomes available as soon as the domain is registered or the transfer has completed.”
- The domain is not active yet. Wait until the registration or transfer has completed.
- “DNS management is not enabled for this domain.”
- The addon is turned off. Turn it back on under Addons.
- The records are saved but have no effect
- Usually the domain still points to other name servers. Check under Nameservers on the domain whether ours are entered, and switch them if needed. After that, it can take up to 24 hours until the change takes effect everywhere.
